Description

The Roland FP-40 brings premium piano sound, expressive touch and modern connectivity into a slim, portable instrument designed to make playing enjoyable from the moment you sit down.

At its heart is Roland’s Piano Reality technology, delivering the natural tonal changes, resonance and decay associated with an acoustic piano. This is paired with the proven PHA-4 Standard 88-note weighted keyboard, optimised to work with the FP-40’s updated piano engine for a responsive and expressive playing experience.

A newly engineered stereo speaker system gives the FP-40 greater depth and richness, while Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and USB-C open up a wide range of possibilities for learning, music playback, apps and content creation. Roland’s Piano Sphere experience adds personalised learning and motivational tools developed in conjunction with Skoove.

Compact enough for flexible home use and weighing just 14 kg, the FP-40 can be played as a portable piano or combined with Roland’s dedicated KSF-40 stand and KPD-70 three-pedal board to create a more traditional home piano setup.

Who Is This For?

The Roland FP-40 is particularly well suited to returning pianists who want to rediscover their playing on an instrument that feels rewarding from the outset. Roland has specifically developed the FP-40 and Piano Sphere ecosystem with this type of player in mind, helping make regular practice more engaging while providing the sound and keyboard response needed as playing develops.

It is equally appealing to progressing beginners and intermediate players looking beyond an entry-level digital piano. Its portable format also makes it a strong choice where space is limited or where the piano occasionally needs to be moved, without sacrificing a full 88-note weighted keyboard.

Piano Reality – A More Expressive Piano Experience

The FP-40 uses Roland’s Piano Reality technology to create a rich and responsive piano sound. Rather than simply producing static sounds at different volumes, the instrument is designed to reproduce natural changes in tone, resonance and note decay as your playing develops from delicate passages to more powerful performances.

With 256-note polyphony and Roland’s detailed piano processing, the FP-40 provides plenty of scope for expressive playing, sustained passages and more complex arrangements.

PHA-4 Standard Keyboard with Triple-Sensor Response

The 88-note PHA-4 Standard keyboard combines progressive hammer action with escapement and Roland’s Ivory Feel key surfaces.

The FP-40 uses the same underlying PHA-4 keyboard unit as the FP-30X, but Roland has optimised its touch curves for the updated sound engine. Triple-sensor detection supports fast note repetition and captures subtle differences in your playing, helping the keyboard and sound engine work together more naturally.

Newly Engineered Speaker System

The FP-40 introduces a redesigned speaker arrangement engineered to produce a clear, spacious sound directly from the instrument.

Two 8 x 12 cm speaker units are housed in dedicated speaker boxes and powered by 12 W + 12 W amplification. Roland has specifically developed the new enclosures to improve depth and richness in the lower register, giving the piano greater presence whether you are practising quietly or playing for others.

Modern Connectivity – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth & USB-C

Connectivity is one of the FP-40’s biggest advances.

Built-in Wi-Fi provides a direct link to compatible Roland services, while Bluetooth 5.4 supports both wireless audio and MIDI. Stream music through the FP-40’s speakers, work wirelessly with compatible music apps or integrate the piano into a modern practice setup.

The USB-C Mobile/PC connection supports USB MIDI and audio and can also provide power to compatible USB Power Delivery smartphones. The FP-40 even supports a headset microphone through its Phones/Headset connection, opening up convenient options for streaming and video creation.

Piano Sphere – Motivation Built Around Your Playing

Piano Sphere is designed to help make regular playing easier to maintain. Developed in conjunction with Skoove, it combines the FP-40 with personalised learning content, feedback and motivational tools.

The experience includes lessons tailored around ability and musical interests, activity tracking and recommendations, while a streak feature encourages regular practice. FP-40 owners receive access to a selection of content, with an optional paid upgrade providing access to more than 1,000 additional song titles.

Built for Home, Practice and Performance

At just 14 kg, the FP-40 retains the flexibility that makes Roland’s FP range so useful. It can sit on a portable keyboard stand for practice, rehearsals and performance or become a smart home piano with the optional KSF-40 dedicated stand and KPD-70 three-pedal board.

Dedicated L/Mono and R outputs also make it straightforward to connect the piano to amplification or recording equipment, while headphones activate Roland’s Piano Reality Headphones Ambience for private practice.
