The Roland FP-90X is the flagship of the FP-X portable piano range, combining some of Roland’s finest digital piano technology with the flexibility of a portable instrument.

At its heart is Roland’s PureAcoustic Piano Modeling technology, paired with the premium 88-note PHA-50 hybrid keyboard found across some of Roland’s higher-end home pianos. Together they provide the expressive tonal response and substantial keyboard feel expected by experienced pianists, without committing to a permanent cabinet piano.

The FP-90X also features a powerful four-speaker sound system, extensive Piano Designer controls, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, microphone input and a broad selection of non-piano sounds. It can be used as a premium standalone portable piano or combined with the optional KSC-90 stand and KPD-90 three-pedal unit to create an elegant home piano setup.

Who Is This For?

The FP-90X is aimed at players who want a genuinely premium piano experience without moving to a fixed cabinet instrument.

Its PHA-50 keyboard and PureAcoustic Piano Modeling make it particularly appealing to experienced pianists, advanced students and returning players who place a high priority on touch and acoustic piano expression.

PureAcoustic Piano Modeling

Rather than relying solely on conventional sampled piano sounds, Roland’s PureAcoustic Piano Modeling recreates the complex behaviour and interaction of an acoustic piano.

The FP-90X offers eight ready-to-play acoustic piano variations alongside extensive Piano Designer controls, allowing detailed adjustment of characteristics including lid position, string resonance, hammer noise, cabinet resonance, damper noise and individual-note behaviour.

PureAcoustic Ambience lets you place the piano within six different acoustic environments, including Studio, Lounge, Concert Hall, Wooden Hall, Stone Hall and Cathedral. My Stage provides a further selection of ready-made combinations for quickly finding an inspiring playing environment.

PHA-50 Hybrid Keyboard

The FP-90X uses Roland’s premium PHA-50 keyboard, combining wooden sides with a durable composite internal structure.

Its 88 keys incorporate escapement and Ebony/Ivory Feel surfaces, while the hammer-action mechanism is designed to deliver the weight, response and control expected from a high-quality acoustic piano.

For players moving between acoustic and digital instruments, or anyone who finds lighter portable-piano actions limiting, the PHA-50 is one of the FP-90X’s defining features.

Powerful Four-Speaker Sound System

The FP-90X has the most substantial onboard sound system in the FP-X range.

Two 8 x 12 cm main speakers, each driven by 25 watts of amplification, are complemented by two 2.5 cm dome tweeters powered by an additional 5 watts each. The result is a broad, detailed sound field capable of reproducing both the depth of the piano's lower register and clarity further up the keyboard.

It gives the FP-90X enough presence for home playing and smaller performance situations without necessarily requiring separate amplification.

When headphones are connected, Roland’s Headphones Acoustic Projection technology creates a more spacious and natural private playing experience than conventional headphone monitoring.

More Than an Acoustic Piano

Alongside its acoustic pianos, the FP-90X provides a substantial collection of electric pianos, organs, strings, pads, synthesizers and other sounds.

Dual and Split modes allow tones to be combined across the keyboard, while registrations make it possible to save and recall complete setups.

There's also a microphone input with dedicated level control and compressor, doubling and echo effects. This makes the FP-90X particularly versatile for performers who want to combine piano and vocals through a single compact setup.

Bluetooth, USB & Recording

Bluetooth Audio lets you stream music wirelessly from a compatible phone or tablet through the FP-90X speaker system, making it easy to play along with favourite tracks.

Bluetooth MIDI provides wireless communication with compatible music apps, while USB audio/MIDI allows direct integration with a computer and music production software.

The FP-90X can record MIDI performances internally, while audio recording to a compatible USB flash drive is also supported.

Skoove Online Piano Lessons

Your Roland digital piano also gives you access to online learning with Skoove, providing interactive piano lessons designed to help players develop their skills at their own pace.

Whether you're returning to the piano, developing technique or simply looking for some extra motivation between lessons, it provides a useful additional learning resource alongside the FP-90X.

Flexible Home or Performance Setup

Despite being Roland's flagship FP-X piano, the FP-90X retains the flexibility that defines the range.

For a permanent home setup, combine it with the optional KSC-90 stand and KPD-90 three-pedal unit to create an integrated upright-style piano.

Players who need greater portability can instead use a compatible keyboard stand such as the KS-20X together with the optional RPU-3 three-pedal unit.

At 23.6 kg, the piano itself remains transportable, although its substantial construction and premium keyboard make it noticeably more substantial than lighter FP models.
